- Legend of the Dragon Koi -

The Dragon Koi legend is a Japanese legend that tells of a koi climbing the falls to reach a certain point at the Dragon Gate on the Yellow River. Once succeeding, the koi would be transformed into a dragon. The Dragon Koi meaning became a symbol of wordly aspirations and achievements.

The koi fish is symbolic in Japanese culture because of its power to swim upstream without distraction. In Japan the koi fish means good fortune and prosperity and is associated with perservance in times of adversity and strength of purpose. It represents courage.
